I want you to meet Sanja and her wonderful family, Husband Milan and children Leo and Eva. I photographed their family back in April 2018 after Sanja first contacted me to capture this time in their lives. It was the end of a very rough year for their family as Sanja battled breast cancer and she had just finished her last round of chemotherapy. She wanted to document her family as they were now (and before her hair really started to grow back), to serve as a reminder of where they have been.
I have honestly never photographed such a heart warming and emotional session. What I witnessed was not just love, connection and happiness.. beyond all it was hope.
I wanted to share a small snippet from an email Sanja sent me just last month..
“Dear Amanda, it has been almost a year since you did the shoot for our family, I’m sure you remember the one, it was shortly after me finishing chemo. I think we will treasure those photos forever. They serve as our reminder of so many wonderful things. The true strength of the human spirit, the boundless resilience of our children, the power of community and so much more.
Last week we celebrated one year since finishing chemo, and thankfully things have continued to improve on the health front during this time. I still have to have annual scans, which I’m already starting to dread, but besides that I feel better than ever.
I have committed to making 2019 a great year. Actually, after everything that we’ve been through, it’s more like we’ve committed to making every year great but last year was more of a road to recovery and now that i’m in a much better headspace it’s onwards and upwards from here.”

This is one family session that will stay with me forever xx
